RI Shoreline Access Update

On Thursday June 8th the Senate version of RI Shoreline Access Bill passed the RI Senate. A major milestone to be sure. There is still a lot to do in the two weeks remaining in this legislative session to reconcile the House and Senate bills and seal the deal but there is now reason to be optimistic.

Saltwater Edge signed on to a letter drafted by our friends at Save The Bay and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. Without the leadership of both organizations who worked tirelessly to creatively resolve the inherent problem with RI Supreme Courts the definition of "high tide" . This ambiguity with the definition has hampered many Rhode Islanders from confidently utilizing their constitutional right to access the shore. Leading to harassment from misinformed home owners and confusion for law enforcement. This bill if passed will resolve this issue.
