Trebles can cause a lot of carnage to you and the fish - consider a switch to an inline single fishing hook to minimize damage. As a bonus, drops, once hooked up, are less common than they are with trebles. Inline singles are built for the job with the eye turned inline with the hook.
When switching from treble hooks to inline single hooks, it is important to note that the sizes typically do not always match. For example, if a plug takes size 3/0 treble hooks, you want to look at least two sizes up to a size 5/0. Ideally, you want to match the weight of the hook you are removing so as not to disrupt the lure's action.
