Assist hooks are built with a J-styled hook that is rigged with a super-strong Spectra/Dyneema/Kevlar cord with a loop at the opposite end for attaching to the lure itself or a solid ring. Assist hooks mitigate or even entirely eliminate fouling of the hook, jig or leader when vertically fishing metal jigs, and also help to eliminate leverage the fish has on a heavier jig by keeping the weight out of its mouth, keeping a more solid and secure hookset.
