Just seeing these on the wall at a tackle store I wasn't impressed. But multiple favorable descriptions by respected sources led me to try out the 2 3/8 oz black eye model in bone. Got a fish my first time using it, and discovered that the described near surface swimming action is excellent, especially on that weight. Subsequently picked up the smaller 1.5 oz version. It also has an excellent gentle swimming action, although not as pronounced as on the 2 3/8 ths model.
Oddly enough it also seems to shed weeds better than other topwater lures. I've been able to fish it successfully in waters where spooks and other poppers picked up a lot more ****. Odd. It seems to pick more up at the front hook swivel than the line eyelet. I'm guessing the same hydraulic mechanics that lead to the swimming motion push junk away from the front of the lure. Pretty much speculation there - but whatever the reason, its a bonus for this lure.
