For 2021, the well-know St. Croix Mojo Inshore Spinning Rod series went through significant, rod tip to butt upgrades as well as an expanded model range. At its start, the new Mojo Inshore utilizes a lighter and more upgraded SCIII carbon blanks that were further enhanced by St. Coix's IPC mandrel technology. This blank upgrade enhanced the smoothness, sensitivity, and durability, three key performance upgrades that make this rod distinctly different over the prior model.
A full cork handle or full cork/eva foam combination is used through the new model line, to allow the angler to put down more power to the fish with a more comfortable durable package. Sea Guide Hero corrosion resistant guides with slim aluminum-oxide rings and a Fuji reel seat finish the rod off, reducing weight even further while maintaining great durability for the saltwater environment this rod is designed to be used in.

This feels like an updated, lighter-weight-same power version of the (retired) tide master TISMF76. To me, it’s more power than the same length, weight and action legend and avid, and it’s a big jump up from the 7’ medium power fast action. So a lot of backbone, much more than is common for other brands medium power series. It’s still got a pretty soft tip, so that’s nice. I fish FL inshore so I’ll use this for lures up to an ounce or so for snook and big reds. If I was back in the northeast I think it would be a great back bay striper and shore fluke bucktail rod—basically capacity to handle larger/heavier lure but retain good feel/sensitivity. If you’re looking for a classic 7’MF, with an extra 6”, this is gonna be heavier (in terms of power) than you’re expecting. If you’re expecting normal st croix 76MF, this is still more power than their other inshore of the same length/power/action, again except maybe the tidemaster. Quality seems great, as expected.
Thanks for the detailed review Edward!
This rod has been very good to me this winter. Casts great; ¾ - 1oz is the sweet spot. Can't wait to use it this spring.
The rod has great feel but still has back bone to tame the big bass. Highly recommend this rod and Saltwater Edge!!!
I tend to hold onto my tackle for a long time, sometimes out of nostalgia or emotion. This summer I broke one of my classic Fenwick fiberglass rods and bought the Mojo from Saltwater Edge with some help from Louie, one of the staff there. This rod is terrific. It is lightweight but casts small lures incredibly well. I was tossing lures under an ounce out forty yards with little effort. The rod has a lot of fish-fighting power, especially for its weight. Handled slot stripers with ease and also albies, bonito and bluefish. Good all around inshore rod.
