Built to perform from bottom fish to pelagics, the Shimano Talavera Type J Spinning Rodsare designed for faster tempo jigging throughout the water column. These rods load and unload quickly to match a more aggressive jigging style and create the ideal flick of the jig that this jigging style requires. High density EVA split grip handles provide for comfort when out on the water all day, and SeaGuide Zirconia guides provide for great performance when fighting fish or dropping down to the depths. Light to Medium-Heavy powers provide a wide range of opportunities, whether you are targeting black seabass, tautog and other reef fish inshore, or bringing them out to the offshore environment for pelagics.

So far I like the rod. Haven’t put it to the test yet. Only small fish. Bought it to jig up grouper. Paired with shimano 5000 Stradic. Rod is very light in weight. But feels stiff enough to pull big guys off the bottom. I gave it a four because a 5 to me is the green shimano trevala rod. Best spinning combos I own is that rod paired with a shimano Stradic 4000. Very Whippy Rod. But have taken many large open water fish with it. LOVE the action on that rod. But it will not be able to get big ones off the bottoms. I think the talavera will get it done. Looks like a great jigging rod. Wouldn’t recommend for long casting.
