Cast farther, deliver faster, beat the wind before the fall blitz
The fall run rewards the angler who can get the fly there first. When albies and stripers are up and moving, you have seconds to load, deliver, and strip. Distance, speed, and control in the wind decide whether you connect or watch. This two-hour, hands-on clinic with John Field, Fly Fishers International Master Casting Instructor and author of Fly Fishing for Trophy Striped Bass, is built to sharpen exactly those skills before the season peaks.
Groups are capped at five so John can watch every cast, diagnose faults on the spot, and rebuild your stroke with drills you can keep practicing on your own.
Intermediate and advanced saltwater fly anglers who already have a working cast and want more distance, more speed, and confidence when the wind comes up. If you fished the spring clinic, this is the next step: the same expert eye, aimed squarely at fall-run conditions.
Your saltwater fly outfit (an 8 to 10 weight is ideal), a stripping basket if you own one, sunglasses, and a hat. We cast outdoors, so dress for the weather.
John Field is a Fly Fishers International Master Certified Casting Instructor and the author of Fly Fishing for Trophy Striped Bass: Tackle, Techniques, and Flies for the Fish of a Lifetime. He has spent decades chasing big striped bass on the fly and teaching anglers how to make the rod an extension of their thinking. His clinics are known for fast, focused feedback and real, measurable improvement.
Good casting is the foundation of saltwater fly fishing, and fall is when it matters most. Small groups, a Master Instructor, and a lesson plan built around blitz conditions make every cast in this session count.
