Fall Blitz Fly-Casting Clinic with John Field - Saturday, September 5, 2026

Session: Session 1: 10 AM to Noon

Fall Blitz Fly-Casting Clinic with John Field

Saturday, September 5, 2026 at The Saltwater Edge, Middletown, RI
Session 1: 10:00 AM to Noon
Session 2 (repeat of Session 1): 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Cast farther, deliver faster, beat the wind before the fall blitz

The fall run rewards the angler who can get the fly there first. When albies and stripers are up and moving, you have seconds to load, deliver, and strip. Distance, speed, and control in the wind decide whether you connect or watch. This two-hour, hands-on clinic with John Field, Fly Fishers International Master Casting Instructor and author of Fly Fishing for Trophy Striped Bass, is built to sharpen exactly those skills before the season peaks.

Groups are capped at five so John can watch every cast, diagnose faults on the spot, and rebuild your stroke with drills you can keep practicing on your own.

Everyone will improve

  • Casting distance: stroke mechanics for false casts, loop control, carrying line, shooting line, the double-haul, thrusting, and using your body
  • Speed of delivery: using stripping baskets standing and at the waist, the saltwater quick cast, and delivering with your backhand
  • Casting in wind: wind on your casting side (side-arm, off-shoulder, and the Barnegat Bay cast), downwind (carry less line and keep the back cast low), and headwind (high line speed, low forward cast, high back cast)
  • Casting wind-resistant flies: matching heavier outfits and higher-density lines to big, air-resistant flies

Who it is for

Intermediate and advanced saltwater fly anglers who already have a working cast and want more distance, more speed, and confidence when the wind comes up. If you fished the spring clinic, this is the next step: the same expert eye, aimed squarely at fall-run conditions.

What to bring

Your saltwater fly outfit (an 8 to 10 weight is ideal), a stripping basket if you own one, sunglasses, and a hat. We cast outdoors, so dress for the weather.

Why we like it

Good casting is the foundation of saltwater fly fishing, and fall is when it matters most. Small groups, a Master Instructor, and a lesson plan built around blitz conditions make every cast in this session count.
