No one argues that the striped bass population isn't in trouble, and as recreational anglers, we have a role to play. Ongoing research with the Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries has provided insights into post-release mortality. They have documented the benefit of reducing post-release mortality when only a belly hook is used. Most anglers agree that stripers are largely head hunters, and the data proves the back treble literally does more harm than good.
These hand-tied premium bucktail and mylar hookless open-eye flags provide extra attraction and flash to your favorite plugs. Choose from multiple colors.

This is another quality product from Hogy. I can tie my own, but I wanted to see what the pros were offering. Some notes: the “small” is over 2 inches long; the white is tied with a splash of pink hair (looks great). While I do recommend these, you can save a lot of money learning to tie your own.
These flags are easy to install and look swimmy and natural on retrieve. I trim them down on smaller lures so that they don't substantially increase the profile, and on lighter plugs where their wind resistance can effect casting distance. Only very small stripers strike at the lure tails.
