Shimano Tiralejo XX Surf Rod

Spiral X + Hi-Power X. Fuji SiC. Shimano's flagship surf rod.

The Shimano Tiralejo XX is Shimano's flagship surf rod series — a blank built around two of Shimano's most advanced rod technologies. Spiral X reinforces the blank with a diagonal carbon layer that prevents twist and ovalization under load, which means more energy goes into the cast and the rod recovers faster between strokes. Hi-Power X adds another reinforcement layer at high-stress points for added lifting power. The result: a rod that casts farther with less effort and lifts big fish out of heavy current without flexing wrong. Fuji SiC guides for line-friendly performance, Fuji DPS reel seat with locking nut for heavy-bait security, and a custom 3D ergonomic grip that's actually comfortable across a long surf session. Six models from 9'6" through 12'.

Rigging & Use

  • 9'6" M: jetty work, lighter surf, smaller plugs — 6000-class reel
  • 10' MH / 10'6" M: the everyday Northeast surf rods — 6000-class reel
  • 11' MH / 11' H: distance work, bigger plugs, jetty trophy — 8000-class reel
  • 12' MH: maximum reach for open beach — 8000-class reel
  • Run 30-50 lb braid with a 30-50 lb fluoro shock leader
  • The Spiral X technology means you can lean into the rod harder than blanks without it — let the rod do the work

Why We Like It

Shimano's Spiral X technology is the real upgrade in this rod. Most surf rods get noodly when loaded with a heavy plug and a big fish — the Spiral X reinforcement keeps the blank straight under load, which means more casting distance and more leverage on the fish. The Hi-Power X is the back-up — extra reinforcement where the rod sees the most stress. At ~$550, this is a premium-tier surf rod, but it's the kind of rod a serious surfcaster will fish for 10+ years.
