Bringing the fight to the light tackle inshore/freshwater market, the Shimano TwinPower XD Spinning Reelscome in with overwhelming power and smoothness for a small compact reel.
This reel is deemed as one of the toughest offerings in their Magnumlite series of spinning reels. It has ultimate power transmission due to its rigid aluminum Hagane body, which sets it apart when fighting species we see here in the Northeast such as striped bass, tautog, and albies. It also offers itself as a great reel when targeting bull reds, snook, and small grouper down South.
The TwinPower XD's MGL rotor gives the reel a feather-lite to almost non-existent feel to every rotation of the handle, giving the angler quick start-and-stop rotation, perfect for impacting the retrieve of plugs or reacting to a strike. MicroModule Gear II provides for a smoother and quieter turn of the handle, as Shimano's technicians analyzed the surfaces of the drive gear and pinion gear to obtain ultimate perfection from the ground up.
Features:
Implemented to eliminate any looseness, gaps, and vibrations between components in the drive section as well as others. This provides for tighter tolerances, less play, more comfort, and a quieter if not silent reel.
Allows for better line flow off the reel when casting and ultimately increases casting distance. With a taller spool, friction is reduced as the line has fewer movements up and down, providing that extra distance when you may need it.
A cold foraged gear set for the heart of reel, assisting with gear durability, longevity, strength, and smoothness.
Similarly seen in Stella SW C, the new TwinPower XD employs X-Protect for its line roller as well and further improves its waterproofing performance.
The new structure protects bearings insidethe line roller from the harsh saltwater environment and bearing durability is ten times greater than conventional designs.
The most advanced gear technology Shimano has done to date. Its Shimano's pursuit at the ideal shape of each gear tooth, which ultimately provides for less gear noise and improves smoothness.

Recently built a new 7ft inshore rod for kayak fishing for stripers and decided to put this reel on it,,,,I am thrilled with how smooth it is and how light this reel is,,,,,already been used on stripers and some gator blues and performed flawlessly!!!! I love my van staals for surf fishing but hard to beat a shimano for its effortless retrieve!!!!! Love this reel and would recommend!!!!!!
I have several Twin Powers… recently I used my 4000 for light jigging for yellowtail. Caught a nice, fat one a little over 2 ft long. The drag screamed initially catching everyone’s attention. But the reel worked perfectly. Smooth, solid and no flex. So, I decided to upgrade my light jigging setup to an 8000 with 300 meters of pe4 braid. I also have a 10000 with pe5 on my heavier jigging setup. The reels are not cheap. But I believe you get what you pay for. I expect these reels will work well and last a lifetime.
