TFO Purple Haze Surf Rod

USA-built. Long-distance surf rod. Made for reach.

The Temple Fork Outfitters Purple Haze is engineered and built in the USA for surfcasters who fish where reach matters — open beach, jetty ends, and pier corners where the difference between catching and casting is twenty yards of casting distance. The blank loads smoothly to launch metals, plugs, and bucktails out into the bar, then locks down with the backbone to fight what comes back. Available in two models: 10'6" rated for 4 oz lures and 11' rated for 3 oz lures.

Key Features

  • Engineered and constructed in the USA
  • Smooth loading blank designed for long-distance surf casting
  • Balanced power and sensitivity for varied lure weights
  • Two models to match different beach, jetty, and pier scenarios
  • Two-piece construction for travel and storage convenience
  • Built by Temple Fork Outfitters — trusted across fly and conventional

Rigging & Use

  • 10'6" is the do-it-all surf rod — pair with a 5000-class reel for typical Northeast surf work
  • 11' is the distance rod — pair with a 6000- or 8000-class reel when the bar is far out
  • 30-50 lb braid mainline keeps casting distance maximized
  • 20-30 lb fluorocarbon leader matches the rod's finesse end
  • Best with lures in the middle of the rating — you can throw heavier when needed but the blank loads cleanest at 2-3 oz

Why We Like It

USA-built surf rods at this price point are rare, and the Purple Haze earns its spot in the rack with smooth loading, real distance, and the kind of durability you want when you're going to abuse a rod from the wash. TFO's lifetime warranty backs it. The 10'6" is the answer when someone walks in asking for one rod to cover most Rhode Island and Massachusetts beach scenarios.
