Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing School at Saltwater Edge

Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing School

The Saltwater Edge is proud to host the Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing School here on Aquidneck Island. The Orvis Company has a rich tradition in educating fly fisherman. They have been doing so for over 40 years. We worked with Pete Kutcher the Director of the Fly Fishing Schools to develop a northeast saltwater specific program. We created both a one day and two day format that will allow you will learn the tactics and techniques that will provide a solid foundation. The curriculum emphasizes saltwater fly casting, tackle and fly selection, rigging, fish fighting as well as proper release techniques. The content is modified depending on the class format and the number of attendees in a given class.

Aquidneck Island offers almost as many places to cast a fly as to find a terrific meal. With Newport, Rhode Island "America's First Resort" minutes from the shop there plenty to do at night or for your spouse during the day or reason to extend your stay. Little Rhody played an important role in the development of saltwater fly fishing in part due to the variety of species available depending on the season. Striped bass and bluefish get top billing as season-long visitors, and bonito and false albacore bring their excitement to these shores most every fall.

After the school students can arrange for a guided trip through the Saltwater Edge.

Please use the Orvis Fly Fishing School  website to reserve your spot. Once registered you will receive a confirmation package with details for the school. If you have any questions about the school please give the shop a call at 401-842-0062
