Captain's Picks -September

At Saltwater Edge, September is one of our favorite months of the year. This is when the season truly comes alive, bringing together perfect conditions for fishing. With a wide variety of fish available, the toughest decision is often choosing which species to target. To help you make the most of this prime fishing season, we spoke with a few local guides to find out what gear and techniques they’re using this month.

Tammy King -@fishgirlack

This month Tammy's go to lure is the Island X Hellfire 180, as she puts it: "It's multi-species attraction is priceless." She regularly catches Albies, bass, bluefish, bonito, and even sea robins! A fast or slow retrieve works well and the hits on it are incredible. Along with the the Hellfire, Tammy is using the Hogy Surface Eraser. The first time she fished with it the Surface Eraser got slammed on the first cast and ever since she's been a believer.

For gear Tammy is using Grundens waders and wanted to give a special shoutout to her favorite Saltwater Edge hoody.

Capt. Diogo Godoi - Gorilla Tactics Sportfishing

Most falls Capt. Diogo can be found chasing hardtails around Cape Cod. As we all know they can be fickle fish but Capt. Diogo has three go to lures that are proven albie winners. First up is the 7/8 Hogy Epoxy Jig, this season it has been all about the Amber and Silver colors. This jigs are incredibly versatile and cast great in all conditions. Next up is the Albie Snax, Capt. Diogo finds that the Albie Snax will draw strikes from even the pickiest albies, even when they are keyed in on tiny bait. This season's most productive color is the Amber/White but as Capt. Diogo says, you can't go wrong with the plain white one. The last lure that you'll see used often on the Gorilla Tactics boat is the Island X Hellfire, both in the 120 and 180 size. These lures work great when the albies are spread out and don't seem to have a concentrated bait ball. These lures draw vicious strikes so when you throw them get ready!

We hope that you are all finding time to spend out on the water this September. As always if there is anything we can do to help you make the most of your time on the water reach out to us.
