Albie Shootout Pregame - Week 1

This year’s Albie Shootout begins tomorrow, Saturday, September 21st. Whether you’re a local Rhode Islander, fishing along the beaches of Nantucket, or the rocky shores of Long Island, everybody will have a shot to win awesome prizes. This year’s raffle-style tournament means the more you fish, the higher your odds. Going into the start of the tournament, the bonito fishing is still red hot here locally. The numbers have been impressive and they generally haven’t been very finicky. Albies have been more hit or miss, but they’re certainly around. There’s also been a small sprinkle of Spanish mackerel mixed in recently. The stage is set for things to continue improving in the next few weeks once the water clears from this blow. Fall storms are always a wildcard when it comes to hardtails. With these mid-September storms, there can often be some great bite windows right in the middle of the nasty weather. It’s the next few days after it blows through when things usually slow down, as the water flushes out all the debris and sediment picked up from strong tides and high winds. Hopefully the incoming storm will kick the local albie season into gear as we’re still waiting for things to really light up as far as numbers go. That said, it feels like just a matter of time, so get out there when you can and you could be rewarded!

This week’s keyword will be “[find out by entering the tournamnet] ”. Since it’s been the year of the bonito so far here in southern New England, it only seems right. Make sure to have the keyword somewhere in the pictures you submit for an entry into the raffle! The link to signup for the tournament is HERE and includes more details about the tournament. Tight lines!
