Offset circle hooks split the difference between inline circle hooks and the classic J-hook.

Due the circle hook design, you're going to get the benefits of circle hooks - mostly corner of the mouth hook ups, and with the offset higher hook-up ratio than an inline circle. With an offset shank, you may still gut-hook a fish at times but if you're fishing for a species where you may want to take one home for dinner, this risk may be acceptable.

If you want the most reliable hook for avoiding gut-hooks, or it is required by law where you live or the tournament you are fishing requires it, the Inline Circle Hook is a better choice.
