Probably one of the fastest advancing reel categories in the past decade, low profile baitcasting reels aren't strictly for freshwater bass fishing any more.

The size range and capabilities for baitcasting reels have been greatly expanded into the saltwater market as well as big fish capabilities, whether it be for stripers, tog, fluke, tarpon, muskies and beyond. 

Many fishermen in the northeast have gravitated towards them for bottom fishing in the Northeast, as adjusting the depth of your lures to keep bottom contact is a simple depression on the clutch bar and can even be done one-handed on some reels.
