Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Striper

Size: WF-8-F

Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Striper Fly Line

AST PLUS slickness. Shoots further. Built two sizes heavy.

The Amplitude Smooth Striper is SA's premium floating striper line — the first series of lines featuring the revolutionary AST PLUS slickness additive that dramatically reduces friction and increases durability. The result is a line that shoots farther than anything else on the market and lasts longer doing it. The powerful head loads quickly and delivers large flies to distant targets, and SA built the line two sizes heavy so a WF-9 actually loads like a WF-11 — perfect for the big bunker patterns and bucktails that work on serious striper. A high-contrast sighter helps you identify the back of the line when fighting fish on long runs. Three weights from 8wt to 10wt.

Key Features

  • AST PLUS slickness additive — shoots farther, lasts longer than typical PVC lines
  • Powerful head loads quickly for big flies
  • Built two sizes heavy — use designated weight for your rod, but expect aggressive load
  • High-contrast sighter at line back — spot the line during long fish runs
  • Ideal for boat and wade fishing
  • Braided multifilament core
  • Floating line — surface and shallow-water presentations
  • SA AMP S STRIPER WF X F (X = line weight)

Rigging & Use

  • WF-8: schoolie work, smaller poppers, lighter rod setups
  • WF-9: the workhorse weight — mid-size striper, most popper work
  • WF-10: trophy striper, big poppers, full-size bunker patterns
  • The AST PLUS shoots so well you can often skip a false cast vs. competing lines
  • Use a floating line when fish are feeding on surface bait (cinder worms, peanut bunker on top, schooling bay anchovies)
  • Pair with a heavier intermediate or sinking line when fish push deeper

Why We Like It

The AST PLUS slickness is the real upgrade in this line family — you can feel the difference vs. cheaper PVC-coated lines from the first cast. The "built two sizes heavy" engineering is what makes it work for big flies: a WF-9 on a 9wt rod loads aggressively, which means you can throw 5-7" bunker patterns without false casting forever. We sell the WF-9 the most for serious surf and boat striper fly fishing.
