The Daiwa BG has been the workhorse of the Northeast surf and boat scene for years, and the new 2026 BG SW takes that reputation and builds on it. Daiwa kept the strength and rigidity anglers depend on for stripers, blues, tuna and bottom fish, then modernized everything around it: a gasket-sealed waterproof aluminum frame and body cover, POWERDRIVE gearing and rotor, ATD TOUGH carbon drag washers and a braid-ready spool. It is still the best value heavy-duty spinning reel in the business, now with a lot more under the hood.
The POWERDRIVE ENGINE starts with an oversized DIGIGEAR that lets you lean on a fish with confidence, and the structurally reinforced POWERDRIVE ROTOR keeps rotation smooth under heavy drag with no flex at the line roller. The upgraded ATD TOUGH carbon drag applies sustained pressure while staying smooth from the first run to the last. The gasket-lined braid-ready spool holds braid without mono backing, and a new soft-touch egg-shape handle knob keeps your hand comfortable through long fights.
Sizes run from the 5000 for stripers and albies from the surf or boat, up through the 8000 to 14000 for big surf plugging, jigging and casting to bluefin, and the 18000 and 20000 for giant tuna and heavy offshore work.
