The Daiwa BG has always been the reel you reach for when you want proven saltwater toughness without a flagship price tag. The new 2026 BG LT brings that same reputation to the light-tackle side of the shop in a compact, fast-retrieve package built for back bay stripers, albies, bonito, fluke, sea bass and light surf work. Daiwa kept the solid aluminum frame and body cover for strength and rigidity, then went through the rest of the reel and modernized it.
The AIRDRIVE DESIGN components are the big story. The AIRDRIVE ROTOR and solid wire AIRDRIVE BAIL eliminate rotational wobble and vibration and give you quick, precise control of the retrieve, which matters when you are working a soft plastic or a small metal at albie speed. Daiwa's strengthened TOUGH DIGIGEAR delivers smoother, more powerful cranking so you can lean on a good fish with confidence. The 6.2:1 extra-high gear ratio picks up 34 to 39 inches of line per turn, plenty for keeping up with a bonito running at the boat.
The spool carries a braid-ready gasket so you can spool straight braid with no backing, and it grips mono or fluoro just as well. A T-shape soft-touch handle knob and direct-drive screw-on handle round it out. The 2500 and 3000 are ideal for light inshore and back bay work, and the 4000D-CXH with its deeper spool and 26.4 lb of drag is a great choice for albies, schoolie stripers and the light surf rod.
